Homeopathy for Mesothelioma Patients by Faith Franz is a writer for the Mesothelioma Center

Rooted in 18th century medical practices, homeopathy is one of the most heavily debated forms of alternative healing. The practice is based on two unconventional tenets: a theory of “like cures like” and a “law of minimum dose” – both of which offer whole-body healing rather than cancer-specific therapy.
The theory of “like cures like” explains that a disease can be cured by small doses of a substance that causes the symptoms they are experiencing.

For mesothelioma patients, these symptoms might include coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain or fatigue. Plants, minerals and animal substances that can cause healthy people to experience these symptoms are used as the main ingredient for homeopathic mesothelioma remedies; much like the concept behind vaccines.

The homeopathic substance is then heavily diluted in water, in accordance with the “law of minimum dose.” Unlike traditional treatments, which aim to provide the most potent dose possible, homeopathic solutions are considered ideal when they contain the lowest possible concentration of the main ingredient.

While homeopathy is not scientifically proven or FDA approved as a cancer treatment, it has helped many mesothelioma patients naturally control their symptoms. Some homeopathic treatments do claim to treat cancer, but these products are uncommon and must be sold by prescription. More commonly, patients turn to homeopathic regimens to help improve their quality of life.

Homeopathic Medicines for the Treatment of Mesothelioma
Homeopaths (doctors who are trained and licensed to practice homeopathy) can prescribe a number of different natural medicines to mesothelioma patients. Hundreds of different remedies can be made into homeopathic pills, easy-swallow tablets or liquids.

Most mesothelioma symptoms can be treated with herbs that have positive effects on the respiratory system. These homeopathic ingredients include:
  •          ApisMellifica (for dyspnea/difficulty breathing)
  •        AnagallisArvensis (for pressing chest pain)
  •     Arnica (for painful, hacking cough)
  •         Bryonia (for dry cough that intensifies with movement)
  •          Caladium (for chest pain associated with inhalation)
  •          Drosera (for deep, violent coughing that produces blood)
  •     Other homeopathic remedies are designed to increase the body’s own cancer-fighting ability. Iscador (a mistletoe extract) and goldenseal are two common ingredients used to boost cancer patients’ immune systems.

Homeopathic medicines are gentle and non-habit forming. Mesothelioma patients who take homeopathic solutions rarely develop side effects from the natural ingredients. To ensure safety, however, these solutions should only be taken under the supervision of a homeopath.
